Default Front shock bush swap - how tight?

Just swapped my front upper shock mount bushes - the old ones were properly ruined!

Relatively simple question I hope: how tight should I do the nut back up?? Just enough to put a bit of pre-load on the bushes?

Thanks in advance!

Since nobody else has replied yet....

I tighten 'em until I see a small amount of squish...and then add 1/2 turn.

That's my rule-of-thumb method. I've never replaced 'em on my X300 so if anything unique is required I'm not aware of it

Let's wait for others to chime in

Cheers
DD

Ta Doug; that's pretty much what I've done so far. The service manual just says 'refit in the reverse order to removal' - not very useful!

I used stock style "foam" bushes recently (on my XJ6L and XJS) and took the nuts down as far as I took them off which was where the Jaguar factory put them ie. install in reverse of removal, now that being said if you suspect some one was there before then your on the "squish" method, plus some replace their "foam" ones with "rubber" style ones. Just for grins I took the "foam" ones down till they started to "squish" and there was still a lot of play with my hand so I took them down to where I pulled them off which left me no ability to easliy move the shock in the mount. Rubber ones do not need as much "squish" as the foam ones IMHO.

That would be a LOT of squish! Someone's been in there... thanks though.

Not sure if it helps at all but the VSM says tighten the top nut to 15.5 - 20.5 Nm.

That does help some - I'd never get em squished down as far as the old ones were with that little force!
