Default fuel pump relay demon

The fuel pump relay in my 1996 VDP intermittently loses it's signal to tell the fuel pump to run. (ECM??). Has anyone out there hot wired the relay to run all the time the ignition is on?

Many thanks.

The ECU provides a ground to command the relay closed . The relay # 3 on the irow the fuel pump relay is on gets it's ground command from the ignition switch . The factory wiring configuration has the ECU provided command ground passing through the troublesome Papa Indy 61 connector .See page 19 of the file below .

The fuel pump relay relies on the ignition-on relay that is in the right-hand heelboard fuse box. So be sure that relay is good too.

You can swap the RH heelboard king relay with the LH engine fuse box relay but not the RH engine fuse box [ To critical to put a suspect relay in that position ) .

Electrical devices often fail as they are warmed up . An example would be a relay pullind coil windings opening up as it expands puling a wire gap apart ..

RESOLUTION. The fuel pump relay problem turned out to be the ECM. I was able to find one on Ebay ($200) with matching numbers. It was plug and play and all is now well.
