Got hit by loose metal off semi-truck
On my way home from dropping my stepson off at a local airport I was in the left lane behind another vehicle and both of us were passing a semi-truck. Suddenly a huge piece of loose metal comes flying back, the vehicle in front of me runs it over and it flips up and hits my 1997 XJ6 which I had almost all of the reconditioning jobs finished so I can start enjoying the car. Now I have a bunch more work to do and parts expense.
So at the next exit I pulled over and got out to look at the car. The front edge of the fender, the right hand headlight assembly are all toast. Plus there is a dent in the passenger's door.

Pretty bad luck.
I have had several broken headlights from stones (about NZD$200 secondhand, and left kidney price new), and broken plastic strip in lower grill from a rock. These plastic strips are not available in NZ secondhand..
But I haven't had bent metal like you.

I found a replacement fender at a wrecking yard in Pittsburgh PA. In the attached photo the color appears much lighter than it really is in real life. It turns out the color is a pretty close match for the color of my car. The cost was $60 plus tax but I had to drive down into downtown Pittsburgh to pick it up which was around 1.5 - 2.0 hours each way.
