Heating Problems
Hi Guys,
old car - new Problem..... AC is working well & cooling down, but I'm not getting any hot air if I turn the temperature up....
checked fuses for faults & all seem ok.
Any ideas?
cheers Julian

There is an auxilliary water pump located on the left side of the car near the firewall that circulates water for the heater circuit. Adjacent to it is a valve that controls the flow of water to the heater circuit. The pump is known to wear out brushes and the valve can stick. Have a look in the archives for info on replacing the heater pump brushes or cleaning the heater valve. Note- the heater valve powers OFF for hot water flow.
Typically evidenced by the temp guage not coming up to a normal reading.
I had this happen on mine. Of course it was on a road trip in the dead of winter !

Cheers

yup, I agree with the faulty thermostat... I changed mine just before road trip across Europe, but I managed to crack the housing, as I wasn't tightening the bolts evenly. I kept dripping slowly, and every 400km I was topping up the coolant. Then eventually I got some 2part 'glue' for steel, and that did the trick
So just be careful when tightening those 2 bolts
