Default Help...1995 XJR6 Cylinder head rear blanking plate

I have a 1995 XJR6 has a coolant leak between the cylinder head and the transmission housing area based on a small puddle of coolant on the garage floor.
I noticed that there is a banking plate at the end of the cylinder head and am wondering if the gasket has gone bad.
What is the purpose of the plate and will the coolant leaks to the combustion chamber as well if the gasket is bad?
Thanks for any info.. Ron

As the valve cover mates with the cylinder head there is 2 D cutouts on the cylinder head

This would be oil

this is filled with the large valve cover gasket that runs around the whole head

The D shape that seals can fall out of place as there is no groove on the cylinder head

You have probably run your finger behind there

The corners of the D can fail to seal and you can place some high temp sealant as you assemble.

For coolant there is a coolant pipe that goes onto the block top left side rear and is pretty much a straight line to the cabin heater auxilary pump tubing

You will see this on page 57 of the pdf below

Thanks for the information. The blanking plate that i was talking about is the one as shown attached. I checked the coolant pipe and it seems to be okay without leakage.
The reason i was trying to figure out the function of the plate is that besides the puddle of coolant on the garage floor, the engine also run rough and a huge amount of white smoke coming out of the tail pipes as if blown head gasket. However, there is no oil found in the coolant.

I see it now in your doc

New one for me

The bigger issue is if coolant in the oil ruining the bearings

Somehow hole in cylinder wall to the water jacket . cylinder compression check against others

Default 95 XJR: Help... Coolant found inside the intake manifold (intercooler charge housing

Hi all,

Intake manifold separated from the cylinder head

Coolant found inside the intercooler housing

I finally get around to work on the head gasket replacement. At the moment, I have both intake/exhaust manifolds separated from the head.
However, when I disconnected the air charge tube from the supercharger to the intake manifold, there was coolant inside the intercooler housing which is part of the intake manifold as shown on the pictures.
I am wondering if the coolant was coming from inside of the intercooler or from the bad head gasket.
I have tried to blow air thru the coolant inlet pipe to the intercooler but couldn't hear any air leaking noises. I am trying to understand how the coolant got into the intake.
I would appreciate it if someone can shed some light on this issue.

Thanks in advance.

That's what I thought too. I was trying to verify it by blowing air through the inlet pipe but I don't feel any air leaking out from the ic core.
This most likely is the culprit of my smoking XJR. Do you know if I need a new intake since the ic core is integrated internally or can it be rebuilt.

Default 95 XJR: Help... intake intercooler core leakage test

I have taken the intake manifold out of the car and performed a leakage test trying to verify the ic was busted.
The method:
There are three hose connections to the intake manifold, two large inlets (about 15mm dia) and one small inlet (about 9mm dia) which connects to the coolant overflow tank.
I plugged one large inlet and the small inlet. Pumped air to the remaining large inlet and pressurized it to 19 psi, after more than an hour, the pressure remains unchanged as shown on the picture. Based on result, the ic seems to be okay. Any suggestions on how to test the ic. Thanks.

The valve stem allows the air to be pressurized to 19 psi. The other inlets were plugged.
