Default HELP! Cannot Remove Throttle Body

Okay, so far, I have removed the air filter, and all the bits leading into the TB. I removed the cruise control bits up top. I've also gone with removing the 4 big long bolts. The whole butterfly is visible. I just cannot seem to get the darn thing removed! Can anyone describe what I'm not doing?

Well, I ended up putting everything back together, but after spraying the bit that I could get to with Throttle Body cleaner, and getting as much gunk as I could out of the TB.

The car started up a bit poorly the first time, so I adjusted the seal of the MAF and the TB, a bit better starting the second time, and nearly perfectly the third time. The initial idle was about 10,000 RPM, but settled to about 8,500 touching 8,000.

After all the stuff is removed as well as the 4 bolts, There is either an area where you can pry it apart or give it a couple solid taps from the end of a mallet. There isn't a gasket between the metal so it is somewhat fused together from use.

Well, I finally got into my car for a test drive, and didn't make out of the driveway. For some reason, the butterfly flap stays open, if not opens a bit more and the revs shoot up. Tomorrow, I'll take a mallet (gently) to the TB to make certain to remove it.

I cannot drive a car that insists on not stopping. Now I know how Toyota drivers feel.

you dont have to take it off, but you need to clean when the engine is hot. open the butterfly and with small vise grips or something similar. clamp the throttle open by gently clamping the slide for the cruise. This will hold it open while you use your wifes tooth brush and carb cleaner to clean. Use the straw and cut short so you can get the bottle in there. on the sticking, did you take off the top where the spring is wrapped? Is so you need to get back together properly and I useally like to wrap around 1 more time than you found in to increase tension. Or you didnt get the throttle shaft clean and have crud sticking the throttle blade shaft open or a combo of the 2

Ooh! I did undo the top bit with the springs, but I thought I had put it back together properly. Are you saying that me having improperly put it back together could be causing my uncontrollable acceleration?

I didn't see much gunk in the TB when I attempted to remove it, so it may not be that. Right now, that's just my only lead aside from the potential spring issue.

By the sound of it...your problem most likely is the cause of the spring not properly being reinstalled correctly. I would take brutals advice.

Yup, it was the spring. I remember when I was attempting to remove the TB, the spring had popped off. I suppose I had just put it back together lackadaisically without winding it to it's proper tension.

I didn't remove and clean the TB today. If the throttle doesn't respond again, I'll remove and clean the whole TB.

Default throttle

tophatchef,i've found that its not the throttle plate, but the throttle plate shaft.some blaster and working of the shaft will clear this up in most cases..steven
