Do all x300s come with the wiring even if the third brake light isn't fitted? Mine is a UK model with no third brake light (or side mounted flashers at rear although appears wired for them - would love to fit those too but no idea as to part number, fitting etc)
If so or even if not, anyone wired up an aftermarket LED bar? Suggestions welcomed - what type of connector, where to connect, if original wiring in place is relay involved?
Just trying to increase my visibility, and the weather is too cold and wet to go exploring as I know exploring will involve removing rear seats and parcel shelf (and tips on removing parcel shelf welcomed)
My 1996 XJ Sport (X300) was just built before Jaguar began to fit the third brake light as standard. Like you, I wanted to fit one.
The problem is the black masked area on the rear screen which allows only the brake light to be seen:
It won't be there on your car.
There's also two metal brackets bonded to the screen which the brake light slides onto. I had my rear screen replaced with one from a breaker but be aware it's glued in and there's a risk of breakage.
The light unit is manufactured by Hella and used on several other vehicles.
The car will be pre-wired and you'll find the connector taped up under the parcel shelf.
Just to add to quick tip: Having tried multiple approaches, I advise using clear silicone to attach the stop light assembly. And be sure to use a jig to ensure you are attaching the metal mounts in just the right place.
I have an XJ8 (X308) 3rd Brake light fitted to my 94 X300. The XJ8 light is a complete finished unit and doesn't need the black out sections on the rear screen or mounting brackets to be glued on. It has a plastic flange at the bottom that means it can simply be wedged in between the rear parcel shelf and the window. Mine's been in place for about 3 years and never moved.
As far as I can remember the plug connector is the same also. So fitting is very straight forward.
(I should add that I have an XJ8 rear parcel shelf also (that's another story) so not sure if that makes a difference.)
