I would be very grateful if somebody might be able to confirm that the mounting plate on my series 3 is the same as used on the XJ40? The part number for the later car is BEC 17254. This is available for about £3.00!
Mine fractured when I removed the mirror to replace the headlining.

Problem solved! The part number of the correct plate is BAC 4633. This has two bolt holes. The XJ40 although looks extremely similar has 3 bolt holes.

the pot metal mounts are designed to fracture when the mirror is removed or if someone hits the mirror in an accident. I keep spares on purpose.
