Default Series II Battery

Trying to get '69 roadster as correct as possible.
Anyone know of a vintage battery venue that would be correct for a Series II.
What brand did they come with? Some Ford product? Any leads appreciated.
Thanks Everyone.

Here is your guide to "correctness".

Thanks but JCNA doesn't stipulate the make of the battery...so I guess an Orange Optima would not have pls deducted.

The battery is considered an expendable item so there are no specific requirements on the make. However, I would NOT recommend the Orange Optima. The first rule of concours is to not have anything stand out that "catches" the eye of the judge. Whether or not a points deduction for the eye-catcher is the outcome, a natural response is to then look at everything else with increased vigor. I'm not totally familiar with the S2, but for the S1, even though the battery itself is free, the battery hold-down bracket and hardware are potential points pitfalls.

For judging purposes, I would recommend your favorite garden variety 12V rectangular battery (preferably in black) that is sized correctly to fit the original hold-down bracket and cabling.

I think the Jags of this period had Lucas-labeled batteries....which I'm pretty sure you can still buy. Even if the appearance isn't exactly the same as what was used in the 60s, it would be a nice touch, IMHO.

For judging purposes JCNA is very lenient, requiring only original configuration and that the battery fit properly in original holders. However, Optima batteries are specifically excluded....

From the JCNA Concours Rulebook:

“Fluted or cylindrical sided” (Gates-Optima type) batteries
are considered non-authentic."

Thanks Guys,
Very thoughtful guidance. They have these 'tar toppers' that are plastic shells which fit over Optimas. Kinda cheesey but are vintage looking. Is hard to switch out a 400$ New battery that is bullet proof came with the car. Lucas seems the best bet if one can find a black example with white lettering, but the ones sold out of the UK are flashy green!

SNG has the answer if really in the show phase. Can remove and use Optima for street. Only the rubber cases are not sealed and can cause corrosion from acid. Optima is a heavier battery. I found out when I used an Optima for daily and track, when it crapped out found the regular replacement was 5 lbs. lighter.
