Having random trouble with mine (I only got one), and after I bought a chinese 433 MHz one on aliexpress that I can't seen to copy the codes into, I read this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...2-x300-112685/
The user "jagent" resoldered the contact points of the buttons, but I can't even open mine (apart from the lid that covers the batteries) to check mine.
Do I pry it open? Is there a hidden screw? Any help before I kill my only keyfob?
I'm also going to try the saab key fobs, but I don't find them with shipping to Belgium, I'll pass a large pull-it-yourself specialised in saab and opel in a few months from now, I'll see to get one there.
The battery cover has a little tab under a slight stem along the "bottom" or where the metal ring broadens out into a hole where the slot is that attaches key.
Don't just try to pry the battery cover off, you'll break the FOB. Search, there are pictures on here somewhere.
If you slide a thin knife blade between the brass ring and the black plastic case, on the side where the buttons are, the top should just pop off with a bit of gentle persuasion. No hidden screws or other trickery well not on my fob anyway, I didn't even need to remove the battery cover, I just opened it successfully. It just snaps together again.
Thanks watto. Didn't even have to open the batt cover!
One of the buttons doesn't "click" anymore.
@ motorcarman, it appears that your picture (and reference) only refers to the rubber pieces covering the actual microswitches? These are still intact.
I'll first see to source a saab remote before sourcing these buttons, it might even be cheaper replacing the entire thing...
There is a radio and electronics outlet nearby which has aerosol cans of what they call contact cleaner, it’s just a spray solvent which doesn’t harm the electronic components.
I’ve had success using this stuff on various different electronic components over the years. There are two versions, one which is plain solvent and another which has a very small amount of lube in it.
Maybe you could try and source something similar to free up the sticky switch. Drench it in solvent and work it until it starts to click again.
While looking at the whole unit FOB replacement be careful of the frequency of 315 in US and 433 Hz for the rest of the world and the car body antennae compatibility issue in this Jaguar TSB
The frequency is stamped in small letters on the battery cover so ask before purchasing on Ebay in the ask seller a question
Remember you can take a pencil eraser and clean off the battery contacts as the electronics is only as good as the battery power supply along with good batteries and not the cheap ones at the discount stores
If you are lucky you can find X300 FOBs at the salvage yard before someone who specializes in FOBs for all cars snaps them up for 5 bucks , US speaking
The X300 FOB is the same as a Saab unit in the same year area for a option

Thx for the additional info!
Yes, I've cleaned the battery contacts with fine glass paper, and changed both batteries. The problem is with the clicking, you can feel it when you press the contacts without the rubber "buttons"..
I'll try the contact cleaner, next option are the saab 433 MHz fobs as I have a saab scrapper nearby. If everything fails, I'll check ebay...
I will keep you updated. Thx for all the information, it's really helpful!
