Unfortunately not.

The photo has been passed around the internet for a long time.

There is a similar picture in this old magazine article.

There is the factory parts modification , or the consumers own solution with unknown parts

The small fitting is for liquid oil in the breather gasses going to a " catch " can or the small fitting will go back into engine oil system

Courtesy Jagbits.

This is the kit that was retro-fitted to catch oil escaping the valve cover. The hose with the kit goes to the new dipstick which has a Y fitting, draining the collected oil back into the pan. JLM20709. Reference TSB 03.1-15. Also shown in TSB 17-11 that Vee posted above for the XJS. This kit utilizes the original style hose which is cut and connected to this kit.

The replacement breather hose you have is the original style before they came up with the oil separator device. You can use it as it is for now (eliminating the ball) and be assured there won't be air leaks there. Air leaks are bad, all the air going in must be measured by the air flow duct. Also, plug the Y fitting down on the dipstick, assuming you have one in there.

Check the rubber boot around the engine air inlet (throttle body). Sometimes it will split.

There are lots of things to check, but just do one at a time and eventually you'll make progress.
