Default I may have dropped a clanger ..... a big one.

Here is my Jag's rear O/S lights after some kids were playing a game of stick - stone nearby.

An obvious MOT failure as you can see.
So what I intended to do was browse websites of Jag dealers to find just the glass at a reasonable price. I found the best price on eBay.co.uk and so I bought item #190779874991. That was on Friday afternoon and on Monday morning the parcel arrived (Top marks to the seller) But it wasn't just the glass as I expected to receive but the whole kit and caboodle including bulbs, fittings and back panel.
Did I do something wrong? Is it even possible to buy just the glass bit?
Cheers
Steve

Steve,

NO clanger.

These "modern" things are a moulded unit, and the bulbs go in from the boot. The reflector and coloured bits are one piece.

Have a drink, settle the nerves.

Cheers, Grant.
I'm happier knowing that I couldn't just buy the glass bit.
All I need to do now is figure out how to fit it.

Open the boot, unclip the black plastic cover over the light fitting. Its a loose fit with two recessed tangs. Expose the rear of the lamp unit, unplug the multipin connector. Unscrew the three (or four?) nuts that hold the lamp unit in place, holding onto it as you remove the last nut!( It may come in handy as a spare of sorts!). Refitting is a reverse, but just make sure that the lamp sits snug against the body work. Not sure if there is a seal/gasket in place. 15 minutes work.

+1 - it's the right part.

1. unclip the cover

2. remove the harness connector

3. remove the three securing nuts

4. check the rubber seal is correctly positioned on the replacement lamp assembly

5. install and secure with the three nuts - do NOT overtighten

6. refit the cover

"Famous last words"
Thanks guys. It looks easy. What could possibly go wrong?
I'll have a go at fitting it when the rain stops sheeting down.
Cheers,
Steve
