Default Idler Bearing Part Number?

Hey Lads,

So the idler bearing on my XJ6 is making noise. Sounds like sandpaper...lol.

I was looking to replace it but all I can see so far is replacing the entire idle with pulley for 100 or more. It just needs a bearing replaced.

Can the bearing be replaced on the 1996 XJ6 or is it bonded somehow and that's why I can't find just the bearing.

If it can be replaced, does anyone have a PN for it?

Thanks
Bernie

Assuming the a/c belt idler?.

Down here it is the SAME as many Ford, GM, Toyota idlers. The part # down here is EP002, but who knows up there.

The original was a plastic pulley with bonded bearing.

The replacement is steel with replaceable bearing.

Any half decent parts supplier should have a range of pullies to suit, just dont menytion Jaguar. Drop the old on the counter and tell the dude "I want a replacement for that", and let him earn his pay.

Down here $20.

lol,

I love that!

Make him earn his pay........lol.

Ok, so it figures then that the part is bonded together.
I found one for 35.00 but 15.00 to ship but its OEM so I may just go ahead and grab it.

Bernie,

FYI, you can look up the Jaguar part numbers here:

Compressor Belt Tensioner-3.2/4.0 Litre - Parts For XJ Series from (V)720125 to (V)812255 (X300) | Jaguar Heritage Parts UK

And shop for OE Jaguar parts here:

http://www.jaguarmerriamparts.com/pa...&siteid=215718

But probably not as cheap as Grant's suggestion!

Cheers,

Don

All done!

Couple of tips.

The square head adjuster can be easily managed buy using the reverse end of a 1/4" extension. The other end goes pretty good into an 8mm socket. So it would be 1/4" ratchet to 8mm socket to reversed 1/4" extension to adjuster.

The 10mm bolt that holds the pulley to the tensioner assembly was tight enogh on my car that I used a 3/8" ratchet with a 10mm socket. It is a normally threaded bolt so expect to put a little force on it.

Clean up the parts and it all goes back together quite quickly and the Gates pulley worked perfectly.
