I'm not sure this will help. This diagram is from a 1996 X300. It looks like the front and rear directional lamps as well as the dash indicator (I think that is the "repeater") operate off the same relay in the lamp control module. The square boxes labeled 12 and 34 are 12V from fuses in the right and left heel board fuse box. It's not clear how you get a different result front and rear.
The heel boxes are located on the vertical panel beneath the right and left rear seats. The lamp control module is located in the right rear of the trunk forward of a bunch of relays.

O n the 95 up to a certain VIN # ( 746613 ) there are 2 exterior lamp control modules under the hood , later redesigned to have 1 in the trunk

The exterior lights go through 4 / 13 pin black connectors under the 4 corners of the car that are subject to corrosion

same of the small bulbs are blade type connection with little wire ears that can be bent out for better contact

What I found on mine was a wire going into a socket was corroded and swapped it out with one from the trunk dome lights

The connector on mine was a EV1 type found on the internet or auto parts store

Thanks for your reply I can understand either how rear indicator can be permanently on and front flashing as they are on the same circuit, but I read somewhere that in 1995 they changed from two to one lamp control module I’m assuming my car is the one with 2 modules. I’ve removed the lamp so I can get home (200 miles) then I’ll start some fault finding, will let you know what the problem is Cheer again thank for your help

Before sourcing a lamp control module inspect the column stalk switch as the connections are soldiered and have a history of a wire coming off and array ( maybe contacting other wires adjacent which more sounds like your decription )

Both bulbs in the front indicator must be working, otherwise you get the double-speed error. Rear bulb (amber) must be a PY21W with the offset tabs. If the wrong bulb is jammed in the rear socket (i.e. a front bulb) it could cause a short.
