hi there,I own a 96 XJ6 and I wanted to know what the average miles are on tires. I have bought Michelen symetrys about a year and a half ago and they are wearing down, I noticed that the front tires do wear quicker than the back. I heard the average is about 20-25k on these jags because they are so heavy? Is that true? And also whats a good tire for the buck? Thanks.

 

I think there are several factors involving a tyre's lifespan . Driving conditions,road conditions (pebble,tarmac,asphalt),drivign habits , compound of the tires etc .
I have been running Michelin on my Jaguar and done more than 8K miles since last year . Well, I have not seen any wear .
I dare say compound counts more than weigh of car in regards to the average wise

 

Heh heh. I've spent a fortune on tires for my XJR but I think it's all due to my driving style and tire choice, not anything inherent to the design of the car and certainly not the weight....these cars are not all *that* heavy.

The variables are almost endless. Go to TireRick and look up some tires with a "600" treadlife rating....I think that's the highest.

Michelins generally wear well but, like all tire manufacturers, they make many diffferent tires with different characteristics.
