About 6 months ago, my car went through a phase of 'complaining' (ie a high pitched beep) when I locked it. This was identified here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...e-again-93640/

...by xjrguy (thanks again) as the li'l flap on the ignition barrel that closes when you take the key out - all fixed & I've had no further problems with that.

But now it's being funny again, most of the time, in a slightly different manner! When I lock the doors with a single key press, everything is fine. But the second press (to deadlock - usually with a confirmation 'beep') doesn't work - it turns the headlights on instead, as would usually happen with a third press of the lock button.
This seems to coincide with the headlamp warning tone also not happening - as if the car has another way of detecting that the key is still in the lock, but which results in slightly different symptoms from last time! Surely this isn't the case? But what's the answer??

 

Bump! This went away soon after my initial post on the subject, but it's back! Any ideas?

TBH if I can't deadlock the doors it's not the end of the world, the lack of the headlight warning buzzer is more of a potential disaster!

 

Aha! Think I've got a pretty good idea of where my little problem is... Any guesses??

I'll give you a clue - I've just been out to get something from the car and it's dark outside...
