Modify XJR6
I have a 1996 Jaguar XJR6. Want to increase performance. Is it true that the ECU cannot be remapped? Also, which is the best modified pulley manufacturer? Also looking at adding the Andy Bracket. What about the intercooler? Thanks to all for advice.
Andy S. ( XJREngineer ) would be your best information as he was on the Jaguar engine design team
He has kept 2 XJR's to himself as his pride and joy , lucky to have him
You can get his attention in the " Andy Bracket performance " threads as he developed it and sells them
He has been inside the ECU to tickle the data maps as a side business , and knows the limits
They race these engines and heard of 600 HP after mods
Intercooler performance can be increased by a higher flow electric pump and Bosch make's one new manufacture that is normally used as replacement that has flow rate data ( data actually in E - bay product description ) you can see to have a starting point , there is an engineering upper limit to what a higher flow rate number can give you realistically but you're thinking right
The XJR has different fuel injectors ( performance limiters ) compared to the normally aspirated identified by a color band in a TSB as the lower flow rate injectors have in the past been installed
About your only variable that you can measure is the Mass Flow Rate where you can measure the return signal to the ECU on the middle wire of the MAF
To test your instrumentation the general engineering rule of thumb is 1.0 grams per second per liter at 650 RPM
A factory normally aspirated will be in the range of 175 and a factory supercharged 225 at wide open throttle
There have been a couple of cases where the throttle cable would not open throttle plate wide open and there is a way to measure that with a ELM - 327 reader as TPS , 13 % is common to see as a closed throttle plate with a common volt ohm meter reading of 0.60 volts DC again on the middle wire at the TPS
Let me see if I can find the Andy Bracket thread he monitors

If you want substantial performance the only way is turbocharging. I know it has been done. The supercharger is pretty limited as is and while you can squeeze a bit more out of it, you still won't get real punch.
Here's some expert advice.

I wonder if a T4 twinscroll of some sort would be good.

Or put in a 6.3litre chev stroker motor. 470hp, 470lbft. That's the plan. Well, the aspiration. Motor's being built now, need to change jag transmission to the GM version and we'll see how we go. I'll post the project if it works.

Some randomish thoughts
1) XJRengineer can unlock and program the Lucas - Sagem ecu - there might be other people too, IF I recall correctly in the Morgan side there are people running Lucas ecus with Rover V8s (not sure if they are Lucas - Sagem)
2) there are MaxxEcu base sets with wiring loom available in the market
3) there are people running AJ16 with MegaSquirt - some base maps are available
4) it is internal combustion engine so "anything" is possible (if laws of engineering and physics allow it) https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/j...9/#post2313250

Ding
Microsoft PowerPoint - Operation and Maintenance 4.710
This probably very same Lucas - Sagem early GEMS series ECU on the V8 Morgan application so wires very close
But great information
