My 97 XJ6 will not move from the Parking position
Hello, Fellow Jaguar Enthusiast
Hoping someone could potential give some advise to a recent issue that I am having with my 1997 XJ6. Recently I hit a pothole and my Jaguar started making a beeping noise, following the noise the internal lights in the car being to flash and the car died. I was prepared to book a tow truck but noticed I could not shift the vehicle from the parking position and also did not start. After waiting for about 2 hrs the vehicle restarted and I was able to drive it home. On the ride home the vehicle contained beeping and the lights were dim and the turn signals no longer worked.
I made it home and parked the car for about a week. Yesterday, I started the car and when I tried to drive it I could not shift from the parking position. I also noticed the turn signal lights don't work anymore.
I have no idea what's going on and hoping to get some insight, feedback or advice.
Thanks,

Welcome to the Forums Ramon.
Your 1997 XJ6 is known as an X300 in Jag Talk.
Confused, you will get used to it.
Jaguar used teh XJ6 naming for MANY years.
I suggest a re-ask in the XJ6/XJR (X300) Tech Section. The answers are there, it is common.
When the beast is sorted, please do an Intro in teh New Members Area.
Good luck.

I've moved your question from XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III (1968-1992) to X300 (1995-1997) forum. Jaguar produced several different models between 1968 and 2009 which were all badged as XJ6. Very confusing! Your 1997 XJ6 has the factory code X300 to distinguish it from the earlier and later models.

Hello Ramon,
When the car is running and you put your foot on the brake pedal, you should hear a click from the relay underneath the shifter trim. That releases the shifter's parking lock. If you do not hear the click, then check the brake lights with the brake pedal depressed. If no brake lights, then your brake light switch has probably failed. Not uncommon. If the brake lights do still work, the relay under the shifter trim has gone out (although that is rare).
Notice the common theme: the brake light switch turns on the brake lights and also sends the unlock signal to the shifter via the relay.
The round hole next to the shifter is a manual unlock hole for the parking lock. Depress the lever inside with a tool of some kind, then you can shift out of park.
But keep in mind if you drive this way, your brake lights will not be working! The switch is attached by one bolt to the brake lever, above the pedal. The original switch has a metal housing.
Your beeping could be an airbag warning. Some markets have a regular audible beep if the airbag has failed, along with the usual warning lights. We don't know yet what country you're in, you can add that to your profile or signature.
