Default Need Ambient Temperature Sensor

Hello,

Does anyone know where I can get an ambient temperature sensor for my 1997 Xj6 x300? I've tried most of the seattle british car shops and several online sources but the part seems to be out of production.

If I could find a sensor that used similar output values I could graft it into the system, but at this time I'm not certain what its values are or what might work as a substitute.

Its causing my A/C to do strange and annoying things!

Thanks -

I believe that is the sensor mounted on the left brake cooling duct, correct? What are the symptoms the A/C shows? Or is it damaged or missing. I can see how that would be a tough part to source.

I may have a sensor lying around somewhere. But like SleekJag asked... is it the outside temperature sensor that is in the air duct or the sensor for inside that cabin located underneath the steering wheel?

I'm fairly certain its the external one in the brake duct. When I check the outside temperature I get random readings like -41 or often nothing at all. And on the rare occasion that it does show an outside temperature anywhere near normal, the AC works fine. I had no issues at all until the outside readings suddenly went wonky!

If you have a spare sensor I would be very interested in buying it from you...

Thanks for the quick replies!

Hello Eddie,

It is easy to see that if the outside temp reads -41 or nothing at all, the sensor is probably bad. Or broken. Yes, it is in the left brake duct, attached to it with rivets. It is part# LNA7605AB.

I would suggest posting a "Wanted to Buy" in the Private/For Sale-Trade-Wanted section. However, you might need to make at least 10 posts before you can do that or use the Private Messaging. Easy enough if you start with the Intro-a-Must section! Then the Moderators can possibly upgrade your access quicker.

Thanks for checking!

Mine seems to be working again, but I'm still watching for a replacement.

Hi Eddie,

jaguarmerriamparts.com (the Jaguar dealer in Merriam, Kansas) lists those sensors as still available new at their discounted price of $60.28:

Jaguar Parts Center - Call (800) 510-1401 for Genuine Jaguar Parts and Accessories

And there's a salvaged air duct with the sensor currently on eBay for $28.50:

Cheers,

Don

There was a thread with the external temperature sensor part number that i can't find. This is the one that shows up in the heater/ac control. I believe it is located in front of the lower grill. Anyone know what the P/N is and what you call the part? I also looked in Jaguar Heritage

Hi dagny747,

You don't mention your year and model (it's a good idea to add this info to your signature line so others don't have to ask), but is it possible you posted your message in the very thread you were looking for? Check previous posts in this thread to see if they may contain the information you're looking for.

If your car is an X300, check Part 5 in the diagram at this link to see if it's what you need:

Cheers,

Don

Default Temperature sensor

I misunderstood, I thought there was also a sensor in front of the oil cooler/radiator that indicated the external temperature that was separate from the sensor in the drivers side brake duct?

By the way its a 1997 XJ6L

I can't think of what that would be. There's an Ambient Temperature Switch for the heated windshield washers somewhere in that left wheel well area, and there's a Radiator Thermostatic Switch on the lower left side of the radiator, but I can't think of anything else. Have you checked the X300 Electrical Guide?
