Hi,
My car has sat for about 4 days and now will not start. My brake lights are working and the P is lit up. However when I hit my brakes I do not hear the shifter solenoid releasing my shifter. I removed the star screw, moved my shifter to neutral and still nothing when I turn the key. Everything looks fine as I turn the key except for the start position.
Please let me know what I should be looking for.

Here was my solution to get the car started. I used my fob to lock, unlock the car and then simply start my car.

 

The shift lock solenoid has a left position blue stiped relay located in the following pic

the relay may be intermittently failing

I park in a basement garage, along with other vehicles, and sometimes I have the same problem and the solution is exactly as you used, lock and unlock using the remote.
I think the problem must be interference with the car's security module caused by other owners using their remotes on their cars and the lock/unlock resets it.

The gear shift interlock relay is controlled by the body prossesor module which I think should have a communication wire to the security module

The brake switch is 2 switches in 1 assembly

i switch is dedicated to the brake lights at pin 1 through 4 of the switch , page 114 of the 96 wiring guide

the 1st switch is connected to the BPM at pin 1 through 2 of the switch , page 89

Same 1 through 2 for the ABS / TC module on page 92 of the 96 wiring guide
