Default Oil Pressure Gauge Never Moves

The old pressure gauge in my 97 XJ6 never moves....is this normal?

Yup, normal. It's a dummy gauge :-). It works like a warning light except a needle moves versus a bulb illuminating. Jaguar went to this circa 1995.

The temperature gauge, by the way, is deceiving. It's not on-off like the oil pressure gauge but it is "calibrated so that a wide range of temperatures results in a normal reading", as per the shop manual. I don't know what the range is but my guess is that about 180ºF-220ºF results in the needle staying solidly on the "N". One of these days I'll verify that guess against my scan tool

Oil pressure gage should raise as you rev up the engine . If not there is something wrong with that . When idling it should become just above red markings

The pressure will raise, it's just the the gauge won't show it !
