Default Ol Girl needs work

Hello all!
I have an old car for a project its a 94 Jaguar xj6
My Father in law gave up on it now its in my hands to either fix it or sell it
I dont want to give up right away
Got two codes
p0122 Throttle Position Sensor/Switch 'A' Circuit Low Input
P0177 Fuel Composition Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

Does anyone know where I can start.
Thanks
Chris

Hey aren't those obd2 codes?

Your 94 jag is obd1 and has a built in code reader.

Turn the ignition on but don't start engine. Press the VCM button on the trip computer. You'll get the obd1 codes displayed.

Also I 'd suggest picking up or downloading a Haynes manual!

Hello again! So I have more information.

I charged my battery full because It was sitting at garage after garage. And reconnected it to the car It wouldn't start. I would hear Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang! then nothing at all. When I first connected the battery the alarm went off. And before disconnecting it just now the automatic doors didnt work anymore.

Im not sure where the VCM is I tried looking for it is it a button that is labeled?

I was wondering if changing the fluids ie transmission or oil would help along with new spark plugs cause God only know when those where last changed?

I have a light for engine, battery, transmission, and light.

Im also leaking oil [IMG] https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/m...0&ref=gnr-prev

Im also gonna have to fix the sun roof.

Not to mention the other obd2 codes I pulled.

If you could send me in the right direction please let me know

Thanks
Chris

Chris:
The VCM is the computer-keypad-like-thingy on the dash in front of the driver just behind the steering wheel. The car needs to be off and then the key turned to position II (just before cranking). Press the VCM button and fault codes should be displayed where the mileage usually is. Those codes can be referenced in the owners handbook or somewhere here on the forum.

I really have no idea about the obd2 codes... Hmmm.

Report back!
Scott

Im gonna have a look and take a picture. Some photos of dashes have what you are talking about and mine doesn't seem to. I know what you mean.

Also tested my battery and its pretty dead but I charged it last night.

I didnt leave it connected to the car. I disconnected it .

Also the puller fan is on as soon as you turn the key to the first setting. Is that normal?

I just took a look at your photos (engine compartment) in your album - That motor sure doesn't look like a 94 AJ6 engine! Am I missing something here?

From your VIN 722438 you have the next model (a 94 X300) not an 94 XJ40 so most of us won't be of much help!

(so that's why you're getting obd2 codes!!)
