Passenger seat rear control, plug-and-play retrofit to non-VDP cars?
Curious, anyone know if the passenger seat rear control from a VDP can be retrofitted to a non-VDP car "plug-and-play"?
Is the frame in a non-VDP (e.g. XJ6 or XJR) already built with mounting points that the switch will bolt right on?
Is the harness in a non-VDP passenger seat already equipped so the switch can plug into the seat harness?

That's so weird, I was literally just thinking about this today. I'd like to know as well. Hopefully it can be as simple as splicing in some wires to the front and back controls. Owning a 95 VDP, which is short wheelbase, I think it would be kind of neat (as well as confusing for anyone who knows these cars). Hopefully someone has done it!
I also had the intetion do so last summer.
I compared the Daimler Six SWB with the Daimler Double-Six LWB (VDP)
I opened the passengerseat but couldn't find the correct wiring with connector for this switch.

Now I wonder how the switch physically attaches and if the seat back frames all share the mounting point or not.
BTW, I just realized that the 1995 XJ12 I looked at recently in a local salvage yard did not have this rear control, or perhaps I missed it....
What models had the rear control?

I think the Switch is not fixed to the frame, only to the Cover.
There were 2 different switches. One with wood-aplication which is attached outside and one which was more "built-in" without wood.

That explains it, and makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.

I have table tray seat backs that I'd like to add to my 95 (likely not practical. But, cool, nonetheless). The passenger side has the same switch. I 've been wondering the same.
Now I know that I'll be doing the wiring since the 95 didn't came in a LWB. Never thought of it that way.

Yeah, I have to be honest and say I really like the picnic tables too even though they really don't serve much purpose.... they are just neat.
If they had made them in the dark birds eye maple, I'd retrofit a set to my XJR. But alas they only make them in burl walnut
I guess one could refinish them in a dark finish that might pass as close enough, but that's another project for another day, especially when they are really just for looks.

I get this image in my head of someone trying to sip on their tea in the back of an XJR... you drift the corner and their crackers whack them in the face, you meanwhile are completely oblivious because of the supercharger whine and tire smoke.
Not sure either if they would bolt straight onto an X300 XJR seat, although I do know that owners have just bolted on the picnic backs onto regular XJ (non VDP) seats.
And since the X308 seats are the same, the following threads seem to indicate the VDP picnic table backs would install on an XJR seat:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...tables-115254/

For those with the dark birds eye maple though, the issue would still be the non matching wood and finish.
OH and BTW, if you look at post #11 in the "adding VDP tables seatbacks...." thread, you can see where the rear seat controls mount specifically to the side of the picnic table seat backs. So the VDP seatbacks may be made for that mounting, and without those specific seatbacks you may have to just drill holes and custom mount the control to non VDP seatbacks.
But the subsequent posts seem to indicate the control is not plug-and-play with cars not already equipped. So unless you want to figure out the wiring and splice it in, or perhaps find a complete seat harness that would work, the rear controls may not be an easy addition.
