Power steering fluid vs Transmission Fluid
Hi all, I'm fairly sure the answer to this question will be a resounding NO, but can I use transmission fluid to top up my power steering fluid?
On The way home today I noted the steering was getting a little winey, usually a good indication it needs some fluid. After arriving home I realised I was out of the recommended Penrite LHM Plus premium mineral hydraulic fluid and decided instead to top it off with some Penrite DX-III premium mineral transmission fluid. I then had second thoughts and an hoping for some advise stating, if I should under pain of death run back to my car and syringe it out or relax and just make sure I have the right stuff next time.

G’day Mikey,
I have only ever used auto transmission fluid in my power steering, Dexron III is the one I use and there are several different makers.
Cheers,
Jeff.

Yes, Jeff is spot on, Dexron 111, as specified on page 34 of the "Vehicle Care Handbook" which it seems these days no one reads, perhaps they need to have it on their phone.
