Default Question about x300 models

Hey everyone. Even though i have owned several Jags in the past (02 XJ8 VDP, 04 XJ8, and 05 Super V8), and now my 95 XJ6 VDP, I am still puzzled about something that I am hoping some of you veterans can answer for me. The AJ16 engine in the 95.. Is it a true Jaguar engine, or a retooled Ford motor and or tranny? Also, how much of the 95 XJ6 is true Jaguar, and how much of it is originated from Ford. I have noticed quite a few Lucas parts... probably not a good thing though. haha. Anyway, hopefully someone can clear this up for me! Thank you!!

I assure you Ford Motor NEVER made an aluminum block 4.0 liter engine that looked like the one in the X-300, except through it's Jaguar division.
As to "how much is Ford?", then the answer is all, or very little. All, because they owned Jaguar, therefore all Jaguar was Ford, or very little if you mean parts from other US Ford models. Maybe some connectors, but neither the engine, transmission, ECU, TCM, BPM, windshield wiper motor, MAF nor anything else I can think of is a US Ford shared part. The transmission is made by ZF, which is not a Ford subsidiary.

I would guess some Ford technology transfer occurred both in vehicle design and manufacturing. Maybe that's why the X-300 doesn't drip fluid everytime it is parked and most of the lights work fairly reliably, huh?

Ah thank you! It's funny you mention the leaking fluids because at the moment, I was just driving and noticed a very stiff feel and grinding type noise when I turned the wheel. I immediately stopped and checked the power steering fluid and sure enough, it was almost empty, when it had been full yesterday. After messing around under the car, it looks like it's coming from the hose right above what looks like the oil pan or something. It's rubber and has some gold pieces to it as well. Do you have any idea what kind of part I would need? Am I looking at a new hose, a new pump, etc? And it seems like it would be a big pain to remove.. Ugh. Thanks!

In the world of the "Ford" years argument I would go out on a limb and say that the X-Type and S-type were the heavy Ford influenced cars while the X-300 and XJS were primarily Jaguars with a little Ford "tweaking" but then again I could be wrong.

The 3.6 AJ6 engine was already in the Jaguars before Ford bought into Jaguar.
