Question bout ignition coils (any aus market advice?)
so I am looking to replace my ignition coils as i am looking to improve the running of the engine and i noted when i changed my plugs and re-did my valve cover the boots were swollen, worn, and ill fitting.
so my question is any advice of suppliers? brands?
especially advice from Aussies where they purchase from would be great.
i have found these for $65 each from JagDaim who i have used for other parts. they seem to be generally good (possibly pricy tho) https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/191922816721
and i know there are other options around.
obviously i am wanting to get a good part but want to get it for a good price.
i will pay more for a good part but i don't want to over pay of course.

In my experience the coils with the brass colored bolt holes seem to be the better quality ones. The silver colored holes usually seem to fail in a matter of months.
The ones originally manufactured by Diamond, made in Japan seem to be no longer available.
Ones that have the brass-colored bolt holes and a rectangular piece in the dielectric material seem to be the best combination, like this aftermarket one at FCP Euro in the US. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/jag...xjr-xjs-368082

I agree, from the photo, I would think it's a good one....with the FCP Euro Lifetime Guarantee, I would order from them.
There is another thing to look at. The metal conductor with spring are smaller in the "cheaper" Amazon alternatives. The OEM are beefier and the spring is a larger diameter. I believe that has something to do with it.
To add to the minefield of "buyer beware" with these coils, look at this ad from Walmart. https://www.walmart.com/ip/ECCPP-Por...ntent=Shipping
The first picture makes it look like the ones you want, but all subsequent photos have the non-brass bolt holes and conveniently obscure the tops of the coils. I'm going to order a set and return them at the local Walmart if they turn out to be the crap ones.
I bought a complete set of coils from JagDaim about 3 or 4 years ago for my 1994 4 litre X300.
It had about 200,000 ks and I got sick and tired of one or another of the old coils failing
The new coils worked fine, and I sold that car a few months ago with them still working.
I have been using JagDaim for some years and have never had to return any parts as below standard or not fitting.

great to hear. Thats what i had thought about them.
the thing everyone was mentioning here about brass v silver bolt holes just raised some questions
the look like the ones everyone seems to say are the ones to get
but my god the price is expensive.
how does one justify that money without knowing for sure they are 20x better than the cheaper ones

ok so another question.
I saw someone mention that you can buy just replacement boots.
now given that i don't think i have any misfire, i think the coils are all working fine, but what i do know for sure is the boots on atleast 4 of them are swollen and gone leading the coil to not fit tight and snug on the plug.
now when i look on rock auto i see all the cheap ones are not having 6 in stock.
so my question is simple and i am sure i know the answer but the only stupid question is the question you don't ask.
would there be much difference between the boots?
i assume no issue to use say 3 of one and 3 of another?
i assume the metal spring does not need to be used if mine is in better condition / better thickness.
also is it just as simple as pull off boot and put new boot on?
***edit...
scratch that idea. unless i can find somewhere with better postage options....
i have 8 coil boots (always like to have a spare)
and 2 top radiator mount rubbers.
and these are the only shipping options.
my goodness me.
why can't i just get it shipped usps in a satchel bag for i dunno like $20 bucks or something. jeepers!!!!!

In the long run you will be better off with Australian sourced parts.
At least we have federal consumer protection if the bits don't work It is called "not fit for purpose". And we do have a relatively simple system to get your money back
These overseas carriers are making a "motsa" of money. I have just about given up on all of the major carriers as well as the UK and USA postal systems
Just received these today. They're not the good ones; they have silver bolt holes, and the rubber on the bottom portion is suspiciously soft. I'm not even going to bother opening them up, and am returning them to Walmart.
However, it looks like coils that are branded with "Brock" may be the good ones. I have a set of those on the way and will report on them when they arrive.
