Default Quick question on replacing cupholder

I recently got a new cupholder repair kit to replace my broken one on my 1996 Jaguar XJR. However I came to a wall on how the springs for the cupholder should be put in. Attached is the what the springs look like for the cupholder. If someone could tell me how its supposed to fit for the cupholder please let me know and thank you

Hi Travis,

As you've discovered, a "kit" without instructions is just a "box of parts."

It's late and I have to leave town in the morning or I would take a couple photos of a disassembled cupholder I have in the attic, but I just don't have time tonight.

Off the top of my head, those springs mount along the lower outside edges of the base of the console lid/arm rest. If you have not already disassembled your old cupholder, you should be able to see how its springs are mounted. If you haven't had any luck by the time I get back, I'll try to post some photos Monday night.

Cheers,

Don

Check out the high resolution photos of the "new and improved" 2003 cupholder that I have posted on eBay. The photos of the side view should give you all the info you need to install them.

Jaguar XJ6 XJ8 XK8 1995 2003 Improved Metal Hinge Cupholder Cup Holder X300 X308 | eBay

The slides install over the damper cogs, and the metal bar attached to the face/cover of the cupholder passes through the body and slips into the holes at the end of the spring/rod assembly. That's not a very good description, but when you see the photos I think you'll get it.

Disclaimer: That's my auction, but since I just posted it the other day, it was "top of mind" as a good example to cite when I saw this post

I may pull the images down for posterity and add them to this thread if I remember later tonight as the auction link will eventually die.

Hope that helps.

Default Cup holder pics

Here are the photos. Keep in mind again that this is the 2003 'improved' metal hinge version, but the assembly of everything else is the same for the original plastic pivot-point hinge versions.

Hope that helps!
