Jaguar Classic Parts just sent me a notification email abut their new product called "Jaguar Classic Infotainment System" that was meant to replace old radio units on older models. I tried to find out more and there was a discussion in this forum by the XJ6 buddies here. What surprised me most is the price tag of US$1,400. So stick to our factory radio and it is much cheaper fixing it and upgrading it with Bluetooth add-on.
Hi Annamiata,
I know this is an old thread, but I have a lot of sound quality issues with the Harman sound system in my turquoise '96 X300 supercharged. Could be the speakers, could be the radio, both, or anything in between, I don't know. Next to that, there taking the analogue radio out of the air here, so I'll have to switch to DAB. When reading the entire thread I got lost in all the technical terms I'm not familiar with, and my repairing skills are limited.
You mention an affordable and fitting replacement kit for the audio system. Could you please tell me which brands and types you used?
Could save me a lot of time and trouble.
Thanks,
David
Strangely enough, Incartec replies they don't have a solution for my specific car (1996 X300 XJR Supercharged)
Does it have a different facia than yours maybe?
They lie, that is the same car as mine, and they are the part numbers supplied lol
The amplifier interface does say XJ8 but that is wrong on their site, it really is for the XJ6.
So just say give me these numbers!

Hi Cafcpete, I recieved the parts earlier this week and everything seems to fit perfectly!
I managed to get the old radio out. Some delay however on the delivery of the new radio, so I can't yet say whether this is the definite start of new sound quality. Maybe the speakers will need replacing as well, but I'm glad to have gotten to this stage! Thanks again!
From my reading from others the 6 X 9 woofer speaker is limited in how tall it can be . Others have looked for a new aftermarket replacement for the original .
I went to the salvage yard to retrieve one to modify my standard stereo option . The speaker was never installed on this donor 95 VDP so will pull one from a X308 as I don't believe there will be a issue in it's usage
Since the speaker wires come from the front of the car on the standard option vs. from the trunk amplifier on the premium I ran some dedicated woofer wires though the plastic molding in the ceiling . This means the crossover is mounted near the stereo head up front . The woofer wires need to be heavy gauge for voltage loss on heavy beats . Have a stand alone woofer speaker box sitting in the rear seat with wire exiting from under the seat pan at the rear for now with quick disconnects as the dedicated woofer wires continue on to the trunk to be moved to that position when needed .
Back to your original question on encoder part # have you verified the 3 fuses for the stereo are good ?
Do you know what the power output of the subwoofer is? Far as I can tell each of its coils is powered individually via the amp. I believe it's a 8 channel x 30 watt amp. Would that make it a 60 watt subwoofer...?
