It was most likely attached with 2-sided tape. You should clean the old tape off the surfaces and apply some new 2-sided tape. You can use a 2-sided tape for emblems.

 

I think it is the same as the glue for a rear view mirror . I tried to get mine off to clean it , nope . Glue found at parts store , must remove the old glue . Follow instructions carefully and don't get it on your fingers , catalyst is very bad for your kidneys and liver .

 

There's a how-to on here somewhere...I've seen it before....I'll post a link in a week or two when I get around to this...I've got 3 of them that have fallen off!

 

Glass companies can glue it back. They have experience with bonding things to glass.

Jaguar issued a TSB for us back-in-the-day.
The parts dept provided the kit. The same adhesive is used for both rear view mirror and HMSL.

Glass companies can probably get it to stay, but my (and many other DIY owners) have had poor luck having the tabs stay glued long-term after they initially fall off.

I've followed the various instructions and used the correct adhesive, but they just fall off in a year or two again.

I'm trying to rig up a more substantial mounting using ABS plastic as a frame and 2 sided 3M adhesive tape, then bolting the light to the ABS. I haven't gone beyond the mental design stages though.

For now, my HMSL is sitting on an old towel on the package shelf.
