Default Rear foldable armrest with cubby?

According a X300 Parts list, there was a foldable armrest with cubby-box and lid available (BEC 6986 XXX) for the rear seats. In my 1996MY I have only a foldable armrest without a cubby.

Does anybody knows on what models it was or wether it was an option?

Thanks

I browsed the parts manual and found that rear armrest cubby. I hadn't noticed that before. In my XJ12, the armrest is a solid foldable one, and a cubby is built under it, between the "bucket" style rear seats. It uses the parts shown below the cubby armrest on that same page.

I like the look of the "bucket" rear seats, and the hidden cubby is clever. I believe this setup was an option, and most USA LWB Vanden Plas and XJ12 I've seen have the wide bench type of rear seat with no cubby anywhere.

I've not seen that foldable cubby in a car before (or hadn't noticed it). Let's see what others have to say about their cubbies.

My 95 VDP has the cubby built into the rear seat. I never really considered them rear "buckets" though...I suppose one could...but in the very end...you pull it out as one piece, not 3 pieces. Arm rest folds down out of the squab..but has no cubby. I believe these were fitted to the short wheelbase VDP's of MY95 and particularly those, like mine, with no glove box.

The cubby is fitted to 94MY XJ40 VDP's - at least, mine has that setup.

I have a SWB 95 VDP with no glove box. Maybe it's because it's Canadian but I have a rear armrest without any sort of inserts. The picnic trays don't have the cup holders either but I think those were for the XJ40.

Default 1995 XJ12 rear seat cubby!

A third rear seat passenger would sit on the cubby lid.

Oh... THAT cubby... I have that. It's full of emergency supplies in case I lock myself out of my trunk again!

Double cubbies! Nice, but more than your fair share! Magnetic catches too. Are they big enough to store the blankets in during the summer? And why no Jaguar blankets??

Don't you know blankets are meant to be displayed??

- Especially in a dowagermobile like the VDP!!

BTW, these blankets are very special indeed, the green one is one of the first handwoven Prince Edward Island tartans and the other, a Welsh wool blanket from the 1940's ..way up there on the snobmeter .....beat that, Jaguar blankets!!!

Hey, I used to do that with my middle belt. If you care for neatness' sake, I've found a much cleaner way.

Push the strap down in the hole. There's a ton of room. Then you can have the buckle seated in its holder. Of course, if you regularly have a 5th passenger, that could be a hassle, but I love the clean look of these holders. I think they were an awesome addition.

Me too! (Same drawback, it's a PITA if you use it frequently...

Point taken! I suppose I don't own a blanket worth displaying. But in the Arizona summers, the sight of ANY blanket will cause immediate and unnecessary sweating, so all must be stowed out of sight.

Anyway, congrats on your award-winning cubby setup... and your blankets! Warmth from the Canadian winters... AND panache befitting your Jaguar.
