Does anybody know the first VIN number of what are classed as the later cars?
The reason for asking, I am aware the early rear seats do not fit the later cars, they seem to be a different size and the seat belt area is different.
I have seen a rather nice black interior at a good price, but it is from a 95 car and would be fitted into a 97.

I don't know the VIN numbers, but it should be a simple visual check.

On early cars, the rear seat belts are mounted on the body C posts, with the centre belt being a 2 point lap belt. There are no holes in the top of the seat back.

Later cars, the rear belts are mounted on the chassis behind the seat, and the centre belt is a 3 point belt. There are holes in the top of the seat back for the seat belt.

Note: If you have the late version, then I think XJ8 seats are also compatible..
