Default Relay click sound

I have a 96 VDP and for some reason when I open the front driver door I hear a really fast clicking sound and all the interior dome lights flash repeatedly even the rear dome lights flash. (by dome lights I mean all the lights that turn on when you open a door.) but for some reason it mostly only happens when the headlights are on. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all, but I just want know if anyone else has had this problem. It sounds like it's coming from one of the rear heel fuse boards.

Thanks in advance.

Jesse, pull the bulb out of the " puddle" light on the bottom of the door and it will stop. Mine did it on the passenger side and the cure temporarily was to pull the bulb then I went in and put a dedicated ground off the socket. Seems it uses the relay for the ground and at some point they go haywire and the easiest fix is just to supply the offending door light with its own ground. Mine did the same thing when the pass door was opened it looked like a funhouse inside with all the lights flashing and the relay chattering.

I think it is because of the door latch micro switch.
When the switch contact gets dirty or burnt, the current can't go through continuously and it activates the relay repeatedly.

ƒWƒƒƒK[X300^XJS@ƒƒ“ƒeî•ñ•ƒp[ƒc”Ì”„@`ƒhƒAƒ}ƒCƒNƒƒXƒCƒbƒ`Ú“_•s—ljü‘P`

You can see what it is like in the link above (sorry all the explanation is written in Japanese)

Cleaning the switch and spraying contact cleaner into the inside of the switch by opening the dust boot of the switch with thin needle or wire, you can fix the symptom in most case.
Sometimes the switch is completely dead, then you will have to get a good second hand door latch.

I have the same car and had an intermittent strobe effect and relay clicking from grounding problem when the rear right passenger door was opened. The red puddle light was off. A friend of mine came by pulled the puddle light off and reseated the bulb and looks like the problem is now resolved. BTW the battery was drained and not sure if this problem caused it. Will update if I learn any more.

As usual this forum is a savior for a non techie like me. Thanks to all members who give practical solutions to every problem.

Hello JTsmks

On 7/16/2014 you advised a Jag member "Be careful when pulling the lens for the light it can be a PITA." This was related to a problem with the puddle light flickering when the door was opened.

I own a 1995 XJ6. I tried to remove the plastic lens cover for the LH Driver's door by inserting a screwdriver into the opening on the underside of the cover. Tried several times...no success. Did not want to break the lens.

Can you provide a step-by-step way to remove the lens with the screwdriver, please? Thank you very much.
