remove rear shelf
I need to replace the rear speaker the one right behind the rear seats, but can;t figure out how to get the shelf that the speaker is attached too out. Either from in the trunk or in the car..
Does anyone know to remove it please..
Thanks

The Parts Manual diagram is often the best way to see the fixings involved:
It's a few years since I sold my X300 and I don't recall whether it's possible to remove the Parcel Shelf without first removing the Rear Seat. If you do need to remove the Rear Seat, the sequence is:
1. remove rear seat cushion (screw beneath front lip at either side)
2. remove seat back (screws either side at the bottom edge

Unfortunately you need to remove the rear seat (I did this last week, installing the optional sun-blinds).
-Unscrew the two access panels under the cusion, either side of the transmission tunnel. This will give you access to remove the two screws that hold the front of the cusion down.
-push the seat belt+buckles down into the holes at the back of the cusion and lift it out. Stare in amazement and the accumulated junk. I retrieved about $7 in coins, two toy cars and a lot of unrecognisable fuzzy stuff...
-There are 2 screws along the bottom of the backrest that hold it in place. Remove these. The backrest has hooks which hang on brackets underneath the parcel shelf. Push up on both sides and lift out - easier with a helper because it's quite large, top-heavy and awkward.
-Carefully pry out the two mouldings on either side that guide the seatbelt up to the reel. Once free, they can be twisted slightly to separate them from the seat belt. Remove them, otherwise they'll probably break when you remove the parcel shelf.
-IIRC the parcel shelf is held in by ?4-6 press-studs along the leading edge, and 2 large plastic screws in the centre. There's also a bolt in the centre as an anchor point for tiny human seats - for my Australian market one anyway. It may take a bit of wrangling to get it out.
