Smile Rough idle - fixed!

Have had my 97 XJ6L 3.2 about 2 months and it's had a rough idle the whole time. Reading the forum it seems NGK plugs are no good, so I got some of the recommended Champion plugs - the auto parts guy tried his best to upsell me to NGK until I told him I was buying Champion or nothing. Anyway, I pulled the plugs out of the engine, and whadya know, bloody NGK. I whacked the Champions in and voila, smooth idle! Seems more responsive too, but I didn't drive it very far.

Thanks again to the collective knowledge and wisdom of the forum

Cheers

Chris in NZ

I'll go out on a limb and say you probably had a bad NGK or a cracked ceramic in one that was undetectable to the eye. I'm in no way going to believe NGK's in a Jaguar cause "rough idle" The only thing I'll use champions for in this day and age is a fishing weight (sorry, just my opinion). I'm very glad you got your problem fixed. There's NGK's in my 97 XJ6L and she idles fine. In fact they are in my TR6, XJS and I ran them in all my British Motorcycles.

This is worth a look. It's the only niggle with my new 3.2. Idling is a little lumpy.

I have no beef with Champion or NGK, so will do a quick check. For the price of six plugs it could be worth it.

We bought a '13 XF 4 banger for my wife and the few times I have driven it I notice an irregular idle, especially when cold.

We love the car...it's a relief to drive after driving my '13 Avalon, although the cockpit is a little narrow for me.
