Sluggish Acceleration

Sluggish Acceleration
Hello All,
I have searched the threads and have not been able to find one describing the same symptoms I have. I am hoping that someone out there can help me out.
I bought a 97 VDP a few months back and although it runs very well and idles flawlessly, the throttle response is very sluggish. I practically have to stand on it when going up a relatively steep hill. By contrast, my 96 VDP is very responsive.
I have tried it with the Traction Control off and it makes no difference. On Cruise control, it will resume very quickly. The car has only 105,000 km on it.
I have tried to lubricate the throttle cable and it seems a little better, but still not great. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Andrew,
What RJ is alluding to is that your throttle cable may have stretched over time and needs to be adjusted. There are several threads in the forum on this topic. It is also possible that your kickdown switch needs to be adjusted. Here are a couple of relevant threads worth reading (the second is in reference to the X308 but the kickdown switch is similar to the X300):
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...e-cable-48809/
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...get-up-145917/
Also, since this car is relatively new to you, do you know how long it's been since it had a full tuneup? At the very least you should check the air filter, and I would recommend having the car scanned for any stored Diagnostic Fault Codes (DTCs) that might indicate problems with components such as O2 sensors, Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAFS), Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECTS), catalytic converters, etc., all of which can contribute to poor engine performance.
Please keep us informed!
Cheers,
Don

Follow Don B, his procedure is the right one, it would be great to have your throttle actuator clean out as well. If the trouble persist then you would need a general tune up which should include cleaning and or replacing the following fuel system parts (fuel filter, fuel rail, fuel injector, spark plugs, ignition coil)

Thanks so much for your help, everyone. I decided to start simple with the cable itself. It was quite loose and so I tightened it while listening to the idle to what I thought seemed reasonable.
I took it for a spin (always the best part) and it maintains a rock steady 650 at the lights and accelerates much better up the hills. The kickdown worked fine.
The links and suggestions were very useful and I will definitely take Queenie in for a checkup. I am interested to see what a diagnostic scan picks up.
