Default Speaker recommendation

Hello folks.

I have some time on my hands since we are ordered to stay home and I wanted to finally replace the blow speakers in my Xj6 1996, its a base model.

A bit of confusion on a Crutchfield site. Id like to get 6.5 Morel or Focal speakers, but most times the site says they wont fit. Should I disregard their advice?
Also, I cant decide if I should go with component setup or coaxial. Coax would put the twitter in the door. What would I do with stock tweeters? I hear those are hard to change?

I wanted to do the least amount of work. Just swap speakers and head unit at some point, maybe add a 4 channel amp later on.

Thank you in advance.

Most 6.5" speakers will fit in the X300. They have lots of mounting holes (usually including the 3 in a triangle that will match up with the car). It is possible you might have to trim off some small sections of the door foam material on the inside. Otherwise, it is advisable to use 6.5" speakers for slightly better low end performance (which will still be shallow).

Coaxial with a tweeter or single component shouldn't matter. I think a coaxial might be better overall. The original Jag system has a tweeter in each corner of the cabin too, and they usually sound good. You can leave those alone for simplicity.

Lay low my friend, stay clean and keep busy. Best wishes.

I used Kicker KSC650 6.5" speakers from Crutchfield, although these now seem to be discontinued. I can probably vouch for all 6.5" kicker speakers fitting. At the time I did my replacement, Crutchfield's website said they would fit my XJ. For what it's worth, I'm really happy with my kicker speakers. It's worth spending a bit more for speakers with rubber surrounds as opposed to foam. I made a detailed tutorial for replacing speakers on X300s, maybe you'll find it helpful. Link below.

II updated my X300 base model speaker system about a year ago, I went with two sets of Alpine component speakers to replace the existing components. Would be easier to just fit two pairs of coaxial speakers if that's what you are after, and disconnect the existing tweeters that are run in parallel, Here is a pic of one of the original woofers.

Thanks guys. Good input.

The you tube video was very helpful. I used it last summer to open up rear doors to see how difficult it is. Great video.
