Default Speakers

What size are stock speakers front and rear for a 1996 XJ VDP? I read online but I get all sorts of different answers.. Some say 6 1/2, 5 1/2, or 6 1/4

The ones that were in my XJR are 6" in diameter if you include the mounting ring, 5" if you just measure the interior cone.
I replaced them with 5.25" Diamond Audio mids, and had no problems.

Thanks a lot...I wasn't sure what size speakers I'm going to buy. I just want to replace the stocks and have a nice crisp sound. I don't mind much about loud bass sound. If the Jag speakers are 6 1/2 but yall installed 5.25..Is 5.25 the only size that will install? or did you guys find a good deal on a 5.25?

Perhaps the VDP has different speakers than the XJR. Mine had the Harmon Kardon package in it, and I still have those originals. They are 5.25s.

If you want good sound always buy a good quality speaker, don't worry too much about wattage, get something 90dbs or higher and you won't be disappointed.

Hey!....I installed my Cheap sony Xploads...they sound a lot better then the stocks but when I try to crank to the highest sound they sound very bad..some what like a crackly sound...Is it because my Amp is stock and old? or do I just need better quality speakers?

sony xplod subs?

and my baseline XJ6 had 4 1/2" in the doors. . .

replaced them with Razor 5 1/4" all around, left the dash and rear decklid tweeters alone.

I've got two 12" 1200watt peak black sony xplod's in a box I built with a 460 watt 2 channel amp with the subs bridged and wired in series, and the subs way outperform my door speakers, but they are also three years old. time for replacement.

also a three year old pioneer headunit.

Im pretty sure my vanden plas runs off the power of the deck. (no amp.) but i dont know you may have a different sound package in yours.

Most likely it is the speakers. Did the stereo crackle before?
Speakers are by FAR the most important part of a system. If you gotta buy one expensive component let it be the mids and tweeters. Try to get efficient ones too (90dbs or better).
