Hi. For so long no problems. Now, out of the blue, my 1995 XJR won't crank over. Yesterday it seemed hesitant to start to crank over, and did so weakly, and I drove to town. I put the hesitation down to a flat battery. Then, when I went to start the car to come home, no one home in the starter motor. All the lights good on the dash, but at the gearstick the P and N have suddenly stopped working. The R and the D are red backlit as usual. I charged the battery up and had another go. Same result. There is the light thudding behind the dash when I wiggle the gear stick around in P activating the immobiliser switch, but it's as if there is no starter motor at all. I tried switching no 5 relay behind the left headlight. No difference. As the P and the N are no longer backlit I am inclined to believe that it is not a faulty starter motor. However, being an X300 this could be coincidental. I don't know where to go next. All advice appreciated.
Hi. Thanks for that. I see the wire you refer to, it's white, and as I understand it, I should ground this wire which will make the starter motor work. There's not much room there, so when I figure I can do it without taking too much off, I'm going in.
I see two connecter block at the rear of the injector cover, but the wire next to them is a white one going down to the starter motor. I can't see a green and orange one at all.
I was wrong , my brother showed up from Phoenix Arizona
The White wire you see is the power wire to close the solenoid to bring the big power to the starter motor
With the single connector pin you can bring power to it and the starter should rotate the engine block
This power is mid current ( not the high current that drives the starter ) so a knife connector is recommended for the downward directed connector and you can touch the other end of the jumper wire wire at the RH engine fuse box positive terminal post
