Default Steering Column

Has anyone done the loose steering column repair? Loose meaning a little vertical movement. It doesn"t move when driving though, but you know, still. The telescope movement doesn"t work either but i don"t much care about that. Anyone that's had these two problems please chime in.How difficult to fix the loose motion, and or the telescope thru the dealer? Or how hard just to fix the loose movement myself? I think doug told me his column had the same symtoms, but i don't know what he did, and nobody else chimed in. Thanks guys

I haven't done anything. I have this vision of the column in a thousand scattered pieces....never to be whole again :-)

Well...that's an exaggeration. :-)

It's just never been high on my "to do" list. I think you should blaze the trail on this!

Cheers

I used to fix this fault all the time when I was at the dealer. I installed a NEW column from the parts dept and sent the car down the road. I have boxes of used columns and cannabalized the REACH motors and cables from stripped gear units to install in better ones. I have never tried to repair a loose 'TILT' fault, I just scrapped the faulty ones. If you dismantle and are succesful in repairing the TILT, post back and describe the procedure. I used to try to sell the repaired ones on eBay but nobody ever bought them so I just stacked them in my parts piles. They are still there I guess.
