Stereo trauma maybe solved
I bought a '95 XJ6 VDP recently. The stereo has given me nothing but trouble. I was getting crackling and popping out of all the speakers with "good" sound out of the rear right corner but only sometimes. I've taken apart two doors, swapped speakers, traced wiring, taken apart the stereo, checked fuses... Ugh!
I was on a hour long drive yesterday and turned it on and just let it play. It sounded "ok" out of the one speaker and that's all I required at the moment. Just some tunes.
Well after about 10 minutes it crackled and came to life in ALL the speakers. Sounded great! I wonder if the head unit just needs a few minutes to "warm up". I don't think that I ever gave it that long to warm up before. I always got pissed and shut it off.
Patience is a virtue that I'm still trying to pick up.
The only thing left to fix is the seat memory now. I'm gonna have to rip out the potentiometers one by one til I find the busted one I guess.
