still having brake probs
im still having that mushy hard peddle, and just feeling of really quite bad grabbing brake power iv replaced all the pads checked what i can check. i cant figure the problem out and its really unnerving. today i tested things out on this really long incline drive way went up on top put in netral and started rolling slammed on brakes it stops but very slowly no sudden jerk no front tires skiddin down the driveway its just dragged to a halt. (also to slow for the ABS to kick in so its not that)
whats also fun is when i step on the gas and try to use the brakes the peddle is hard as a rock i get nothing to stop the car. then gradually it grabs.
im at my wits end on this issue. im completely stumped.
any ideas.

I had a ford pick-up that had the same symptoms, It was alot of years ago. Wish I could remember what rectified the problem.. maybe if you call a local brake shop and talk with a technician they could point you in the right direction, the hard pedal after throttle has got to be a spacific symptom of something..it's worth a shot...hope its not too expensive..Mike

I agree that it's definitely in the vacuum booster. Whether it's a leak or the booster is failing otherwise. I think the hard braking is because the booster is now working against you, actually making it harder to apply the brakes.

There are a number of faults that cause your symptoms, and it could be a combination of them all, it all depends how much you use your car i.e. are the brakes getting regular use.
For the very hard pedal check all the brake calipers are working easily, no sticking. the soft mushy pedal check the accumulator or pressure ball it may be the diaphragm is broken, it will initially give you a mushy pedal until the pump gets your hydraulics up to pressure.
Air in the anti lock brake block will also give you a mushy or soft pedal all the time, bleed it by undoing one of the brake lines on the ALB block and allow a little fluid to flow out. This is messy so you need lots of paper towels under the block to catch the fluid.
hope this helps
