subframe bushes x300
I have made the terrible mistake of knocking out my old bushes without marking the orientation so now it is trial and error as the distance is wrong between vee mount spiggots and bush hole. My fault but I would love to know why Jaguar did not just put the holes in the middle of the bushes and how did they line them up in the first place as there are no markings to go from?
Thanks Tim
Thanks Tim
If in fact you have an X300 you would get better results posting in the X300 area. There you will find owners familiar with your car.

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.
I have moved your thread from the forum for the X308 to the forum for the X300. As Bob mentioned, it is helpful to add the year, model and engine of your Jaguar to your signature so others don't have to ask in order to offer accurate responses.
The bolt holes in the subframe pivot bushings are not centered because the forces on the subframe are not equal in every direction. The engineers designed the bushings to provide the desired compliance and damping while resisting the asymmetrical forces: supporting the static and dynamic mass of the car, absorbing road impacts, and resisting movement due to suspension excursions, engine torsion, etc.
The photos at the link below are of our '93 XJ40, but the X300 subframe is the same part and the rear pivot bushings are similar. Unfortunately the large photos at Jag-Lovers are not currently working, but the thumbnails may help you see how those bushings are oriented:
Front Subframe / Crossbeam Pivot Bush Renewal
This photo album shows how I reinstalled the subframe. I first tried by installing the bolts through the rear pivot bushings, then jacking the subframe up to the body. But I could see that the Vee mounts were not going to align with the bolt holes with the subframe pivoting in that way. So I replaced the bolts through the pivot bushings with short 1/4 inch drive ratchet extensions to allow a little more wiggle room to get the Vee mounts aligned:

Please keep us informed, and in the meantime please visit the New Members Area - Intro A Must and post a required introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jaguar and give you a proper welcome.
Cheers,

I actually got this tool. I bet it will not work with an X300 since the center opening is not centered. Also, the other picture to install the new bushing does not make sense since the alignment notch on the bushing and the frame don't align like the picture
