Best place would be with details, then "search." '94 XJ6 in the States would mean you have posted in the wrong forum, as that would be the predecessor to the X300. However, I believe there may well be 94 X300's in the UK. Sorry, I'm not savvy on which model the predecessor is, my guess would be XJ40. I do know X308 followed X300 and that the sunroof is common to both and has a history of problems. I don't know if it was carried-over from the previous model or not.
Having said all that, if you do, in fact have an X300, search this forum (and the X308 forum) for "sunroof" and you'll find more info than you want on it... Perhaps a mod will help out if you determine you don't really have the X300 and move the post for you. Good luck!

By the VIN (apparently) this is an X300.
The poor guy has been running round the XJ sections being told he's in the wrong one but look here

place to start FUSES, then try opening the sunroof manually by removing the cover to gain access to the manual opening/closing method. if it opens normally then manually apply power at the motor. i dont know if it has a plug you can disconnect from the motor but if it does just apply positive and ground to the 2 wires of the motor(orange wire and blue wire) and it should move in one direction, invert the connection you made and it should rotate in the other direction. if it doesnt move this way the motor is shot or stuck. ud have to remove it. with motor in hand, open the case and unscrew the mass and check. you can use a lite sand paper where the little carbons make contact with the mass. check the connection that everything looks ok inside the motor. if it where stuck frozen i have managed to brake them loose and working using lubricant on the outside while having the motor opened and using a wrench to make it turn. dont use lubricant on the inside because they already have grease in them.
other than that if the motor proves to be working, the mechanism of the sunroof isnt stuck in any way and the relative fuses are good you would have to check the sunroof module. cheking:
1.ground on the black wire of the module.
2.the orange /gray and orange/green wires going to the module are from the open/close switch and work with ground. meaning if you apply ground to one of them the module will think you have pressed the button in either direction. (good for diagnosing the button itself or lack of ground to the button.
3. the brown/pink wire on the module should have positive signal, it goes to the fuse #18 on the RH heelboard
thats all i can think of, if you cant figure out whats wrong with it after doing this tests i would think the module itself is bad.
good lucks.

so you can hear the motor keep going for as long as u press the button or just for a sec? maybe someone else can help you with the sliding mechanism im not sure how that one works. i think it has a wire cable butthats about it. i find the sunroof mechanism pain in the a** to work with. you could try taking it to a specialist.
