Question Torque value for differential fill and drain plugs?

Is there a torque value for tightening the drain and fill plugs in the differential?

Al,

I just checked my copies of the Workshop Manuals for the X300 and XJ40 (the later ones used the same GKN Salisbury 15U diff). I can't find any torque spec listed for the drain and fill plugs. The Haynes XJ40 manual simply states, "Tighten the drain and fill plugs securely."

It doesn't hurt to clean the threads on the plugs and diff holes and apply a small amount of Permatex thread sealant or RTV silicone sealant to the plug threads.

Cheers,

Don

Thanks, that's what I figured.... "hand tight", but thought I'd check.
