transmission light on shifts hard

When is the last time the fluid was checked or even changed? Checking fluid level and quality would be the first and least expensive/complicated step.
If you have an OBDII reader you can also check to see what codes are set.
If it turns out to be something more complicated than fluid, then the codes may send you in the right direction.
One area that is sometimes the problem is the wiring harness to the transmission that attaches through the transmission tunnel. It sometimes gets broken or stressed through the movement of the transmission. There are quite a few threads here on that subject.
But I'd start with the simple stuff first and see what the codes tell you.
Good luck!

Hi swaschka,
Al's suggestion that you check the electrical connector at the transmission is a good place to start. If your car has the ZF 4HP24 transmission, the connector looks like the one in the photos at the link below. You can disconnect it, flush it out with zero-residue electrical contact cleaner spray, allow it to dry, inspect for any damaged pins or wires, then reconnect it securely:

According to the Transmission Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) manual (attached), P0748 indicates a problem with the transmission internal pressure solenoid electrical harness, the harness between the transmission and the Transmission Control Moduel (TCM), or a fault with the pressure solenoid.
Please keep us informed.
Cheers,
Don
