Default Unable to open trunk 96 XJ6

Hello all,

I removed the battery from my XJ6 so I could use it to get my XJ-S home. Now that I have the battery back, I cannot get the trunk open to put it in. The key is not working. It will go in, but not turn. And of course without power, the trunk lock button does not function. Is there a lever or something to unlock the trunk with? I have looked in the glove box and by the driver's side seat, but have not found anything. So how does one get the trunk open with no power, and a key that is not working?

Jim

I suggest you connect the battery temporarily under the bonnet using jump leads. There is a +ve post on the firewall (right and left I think), covered with a rubber boot.

Note - Pic is RHD car.

There are two +ve terminals inside the engine bay, right by the fuse boxes. You can pick up a ground anywhere on the body, exhaust manifold, etc. There is a knack of removing the rear licence plate and tripping he lock mechanism manually, through a small hole. There are a million posts on here regarding this, so a search will uncover plenty of details.

Hello,
this is the +ve post sogood is talking about (see attachment). There is another one next to the RH fuse box.

Thanks for the info, I have not had the chance to work on the XJ6 lately as I have been too busy. I will try and get it sorted out in the next day or two.

Well, I am an idiot. I have two keys for this Jaguar. One with black plastic and one with green. Both are Jaguar keys, and not aftermarket. The green one starts the car but will not open the trunk. The black one starts the car, and opens the trunk. Go figure. So now I have the battery installed and will have to remember to use the black one should I ever need to open the trunk with no electrical power.

The green one is the "valet key". Compare the tip of the two keys.
