Unhappy Very Sad Morning...Please Any & All Advice Soon

On my way back from errands this morning my XJR6 had 3 VERY HARD pulls from 1st-2nd gear.

After the 3rd time my Automatic Transmission Failure light went on & stayed on. I was still a couple miles from home and it didn't require any more stops so I kept driving it...

All the other gears shift perfect still.

My Jag manual recommends if the Jag is the Supercharged or V12 model to take to Jaguar Dealer immediately when this light stays on. I don't think it is in Limp Mode yet.

There is a foreign/exotic car shop I take it to in Buffalo. Should I have it towed there or really take it to my local Jag Dealer...?

Any advice soon is much appreciated guys.

ALSO: Last August as preventative maintenance I had my shop replace the Transmission Mount/Spring Seat (cushion) which is that weak spot prone to cause extra strain on wiring for the 95-97 XJR6's. I have not checked since it was installed, but there is no reason why it should have moved being brand new...

I would have thought that if the transmission light is on, then you would be able to pull assorted error codes, or have them read at your garage.

I'd check that harness anyway. You just might find the problem and save yourself some time and money.

Hey XJ, if it happens again, just stop the engine and restart it after all the dash lights go off . This happened to me twice in my '93 and did the same routine .It worked and shifted perfectly as it was before .
However, I remember that when I reported this failure my Jag Specialist changed a sensor or so

hey guys, thanks for the helpful replies so far. I got under the car the day it happened and double checked that cushion seat, which I replaced last summer. It has some flexibility like it should, but the bolt holding it in is definitely as tight as can be.

On another note as you said Cadillac I started for the first time again today. Backed it down the driveway 1/2 mile down the street. Light was off and the hellish 1st gear pull did not happen. Everything worked and shifted normal.

Just a little concerned to drive it now with the chance of that awful feel again. My shop is a solid 25-30 mins from me. Any recommendations on whether I should tow it or drive it out there next week??

Nice to see nothing is major at least your car is drivable unless tranny message comes on the dash but I reckon you should not take any chance that idiot warning light might come on anytime soon .
Don't tow it just drive it to the shop and if you see that light again just remember my previous message .
I guess there is something electronic glitch rather than mechanical failure which is more preferable

so far so good. I have used the R a bunch of short distance errands over the last week. Everything is fine. Hoping that whole tranny light was just a fluke! Because I don't have the extra $$$ right now even for my shop to just charge labor trying to figure it out.

Im thinking my R was letting me know I was driving her a little harder & faster than normal that same day. She'll be treated with the upmost respect from now on!

I'm glad you added the wink-smiley. I'd hate to think you turned into one of those Jag owners who putt-putts around as though the car was made out of glass :-). Ther's only one place for a Jaguar: at the head of the pack !

Cheers
