what is the tail pipes made of??

I thought the tail pipes and the rest of the exh. system was s/s or maby i am wrong , so what is it ,really . Satterfield

Mine looks like pile of rust, and it falls apart like so as well. Only the tips that are visible are chromed and that's it.
