Apologies if my terminology is incorrect, but I'm referring to the small bulb inside and at the bottom of the low beam headlight that lights with the parking/marker lights.

On my Moto Guzzi, the manual calls this bulb a "city light".

Anyway, am curious what type/model of bulb this is in the X300?

The bulbs you're talking about are the T10 type. I upgraded mine to LED bulbs that I got off of ebay for a little less than $4

You can get them in other colors too, like amber or blue. Six has amber city lites. Looks cool when headlamps are not on (I think so anyway).

Heh, yeah I have an amber one in my Moto Guzzi headlight. I think it adds some visibility.

how to get them out?
Any hints on how to get it out, I can reach it, bu am afraid to put too much pressure on it. This was on a light that the glass had been loose on so there may be some corrosion.

As I recall on mine when I recently repaired the loose glass the "City light" is keyed so you rotate and it slides out. I would say pull the whole low beam assembly out after unhooking the main bulb. That way you can see much better.

No corrosion after all, incorrect technique in removing them :-) it took five minutes to change both bulbs and you don't need to take out the headlight. I changed them from white to amber, i'll see if i like that tonight. 4.99 for two bulbs

The small light is removed just like the regular headlight bulb. The physical bulb is wedged in a holder that as two wires connected at the ends of it. Twist it out of the headlight housing and the bulb and "holder" come out and you just simply pull the bulb out and replace.

Oh that sounds interesting going with amber, can you get us some pictures of how that looks? Dusk lighting maybe. For $5 might just try it myself.

It looks really good, IMHO anyway. Makes it look more like a Jaguar. I would imagine DOC's car with red city lights would look and sound like the devils own car

I can't speak for that specific brand, but I've read a lot about these cheaper LED lights failing in a short timeframe.

Apparently the Sylvanias have a good track record of lasting like a regular bulb. Or course, the Sylvanias are $10-12 a bulb though

yeah the $4 price and 5minutes or less it takes to change them I figured why not, my OEM bulbs still work and there really is no functional use to the city lights I just want the coolness factor of the amber lights, may even pickup some red to go with the color of the car.

When working properly they do. You can also run city lights and fog lights together. It doesn't help you see any better, just a different light show

USA spec cars "city lights" stay on with parking and headlights
Quote: do the city light go out when the low beams come on?
Well, the short answer is that on US cars the "city lights" stay on.

But in reality these lights turn out to be the front "parking lights" since our front amber bumper lights are only turn signals. So yes, these small lights in the low beams do stay on with the parking lights and headlights lit.

With that in mind, amber lights are becoming more interesting to me -

I actually pulled my low beam lights out and washed the insides - they were so fogged that I didn't realize there was a reflector in there.
