Default x-300 keyless entry

Anyone know where I can get a used keyless entry remote for my 1996 VP?

The dealer price is over $300.

And what about the frequencies used on those remotes?

Many thanks.

Fairly common on Ebay for $75-$100

At some point Jaguar changed frequency from 315Mhz to 433Mhz. I can't remember the breakpoint.

I think the antenna (imbedded in the back glass) configuration/appearance will identify which you need....but we'll have to wait for someone with a better memory to come and explain exactly what to look for

Cheers

Doug,

European frequency is always 433Mhz. I thought US frequency is 315Mhz.

Have you found instances of 433Mhz remotes working on a US Jaguar?

My understanding is that the change to 433mhz applied to all cars regardless of market.

Posting #4 in this thread has a tech bulletin discussing frequency change and antenna identification

Doug,

Thanks for that information and useful link. That's dispelled a long held misconception for me!

Checking the Parts Manual across the model range, I see that 315Mhz is now only applicable to Japan and South Korea.

All those TSBs are in the large file section. I uploaded a bunch of older ones years ago.
Do a search of the info, read them all and most people will probably ask so few questions that this forum would be a quiet place.

Unfortunately it takes hours and most people just want a quick answer.

I guess we live in a 'microwave' society (I want it NOW) kind of like a fast 'google search'. It would have taken YEARS if it was like the old 'go to the public library days'.

Now we find all sorts of info in seconds.

Default Transponder

I am looking for a remote for my '97 VDP and the dealer told me it was the 315 mhz..... They seem much harder to find. Is dealer mistaken?

Did your dealer check the security module ? You can not rely on the rear windscreen circuit as they work equally on both 315 and 433. Save yourself some time and money and pull out the module and check for yourself. It is a little awkward to get out but worth it as key fobs are 60 to 80 dollars a shot on ebay.It is up by the fuel filler in the trunk and is held in place by two bolts, remove the carpet to get to it.
